The challenges of our agentic AI future
I’m thrilled to extend my gratitude to Bridie and Louise, the two remarkable co-founders, and The Full Circle team for creating an environment ripe with stimulating conversations and valuable connections during the “Governing Agentic AI” event led by Nell Watson.
In this event, we gathered thoughtful leaders to celebrate the release of Nell’s new book, “Taming the Machine.” Acknowledged by esteemed organisations like the IEEE and the British Computing Society,
Nell has solidified her position as a beacon of guidance in shaping the ethical future of AI.
Nell eloquently guided us through the complexities of dual-process thinking and the two systems of AI, examining its profound impact on humanity. She reflected on navigating the chaos and cleaning the mess gently while maintaining mindfulness. Her insights into AI’s expansive influence were not just informative but transformative.
During her discussion, Nell sounded an alarm about the changing nature of jobs, cautioning against the trend of humans working like robots.
She invoked the term “Zersetzung,” a psychological warfare technique used by the Stasi to repress political opponents, drawing parallels to our current vulnerability and the repetitive patterns of history.
Her message is clear: value and goal alignment are crucial.
The essence of her book, “Taming the Machine,” lies in its advocacy for transparency, fairness, accountability, and privacy with AI law as a nominator. She highlighted the necessity of AI safety, an area that has been considered science fiction until recently (2023).
Nell navigates the complex terrain of agentic AI, weaving stories of its profound and potentially life-altering impact on our lives, addressing issues from bias to privacy, and proposing actionable policy solutions.
From a leadership and strategic perspective, it’s imperative to continually revisit these alignments at the board level.
Supporting leaders through resistance and educating them about AI in their long-term vision is crucial. Without this, opportunities will be missed, and poor venture decisions will be made. Slowing down the process of implementing adequate risk management actions can prevent biased data and privacy issues. Failing to do so will hinder the transformation process, potentially leading to market loss and failing to meet customer expectations, ultimately impacting economic development and global ambitions.
To truly harness AI’s potential, I strongly encourage you to understand its impact. Read Nell’s book, be inspired by her wisdom, and invite her to speak with your organisation, government, or community. Embrace inclusivity and learn from global examples like Singapore, which proactively prepares its citizens for the age of AI, particularly those over 40. Educate citizens and the educational system to foster a critical mindset and a centred approach.

And now, dear reader, the force is with you. Let’s lead with knowledge, foresight, and a commitment to ethical AI development.
From heart to heart. Arsenia
