STOP spending a massive budget on training, explore how to nudge engagement and lead from heart to heart!

Gallup’s annual engagement survey reports an annual figure of 34% engaged workers in 2021. We notice over and over again employees forget about all the content they receive through a fan of training and the engagement remains low. My experience as a behavioral expert, marketeer and strategist brings me always back to the basics when hearing the stories of my corporate clients.

Pause, be curious and listen deeply without getting in your head.
And from there start to ask open questions from the perspective of your employees needs. What’s more: how do you as an organisation ask questions about employee engagement? Explore, fail, learn, recycle and again explore, fail, learn, recycle…

And this brings me back to the European Kendo Championships from last month where I came energised and optimistic to continue to nudge engagement in the corporate world. I could feel enthusiasm, and determination but also unneeded suffering along the way between new fighters and referees and also experienced ones.

We all mostly suffer from a failure of imagination and that’s ok.
And be aware if it goes down we experience a state of mind of anxiety and
what we seek is to recover and send our energy up to boost our creativity.

What do we learn from martial arts and science to increase engagement and reduce suffering?
Awareness:
in martial arts, you learn through the methodology of meditation (zazen, meditation, mindfulness…) to be aware of what’s going around you and keep the diversion outside of your system.
Engagement: behavioral science explains to us that we not only are aware of our environment but also actively participate in it + the importance of our community to acknowledge our engagement.

I strongly invite you the willingness to be open and embrace the above 2 states of mind. That’s where magic happens. That’s where you start to appreciate all the triggers the environment throws at you!

On the last note — I’m grateful for all my communities, kohai, sempai and sensei. I also find so much joy to support the German, EU and Japanese federations at the EKC. Thank you to inspire my heart.

And an additional appreciation to all my friends that don’t believe in me and are malevolent. You drive me to be each day a better person, walk my talk, have a code of honor and lead from heart to heart.

I feel energised to pursue my 道 (DO) in 剣 (KEN).
The heart sees wisdom and growth towards my next summit: 6dan shinsa.
