El Pais, Nevenca Fernández, el día que anunció su denuncia por acoso sexual.

RISE FIERCE

I didn’t create any special action at #iwd2021 because I fiercely commit to doing the work every day. Today I celebrate courageous women & men who support women’s social progress, Kate Manne’s book “Down Girl” and the story of Nevenka Fernández.

Nevanka shares a cultural heritage with me where sexism, misogyny,
shame and guilt are golden rules in this part of Spain called profound Castilla. This is one of the visceral reasons I inspire, cultivate and empower leaders to stay grounded and be connected with themselves to flow with the future.

Nevenka dared 20 years ago to say NO to the poison of male incivility, and because of this, she’s seen as disruptive.
She showed “courage” at work for saying NO to sexual harassment from her colleague, the major PP Ismael Álvarez.
She showed “courage” at work to stand for her dignity.
She showed “courage” at work and win the first machista process towards a political person in Spain. She showed “courage” at work and the community has punished her for standing for her dignity. Click here to see the Netflix documentary about her case.

She experiences it and she said NO to it. If you let this pass,
you accept this as normal and acceptable behaviour for you and your communities.
This is a reminder to all of us: lead by example and build a new cultural heritage.

I believe it’s important before we tackle issues on the work floor and in our communities to clearly understand the big picture and clearing all the assumptions instead of judging and blaming people. In addition, we have the magical COVID-19 who moves women’s progress backwards..
Once this is clear, raise awareness through coaching, mentoring with an accountability system. And in parallel, educate your people through a leadership programme.
It’s important to invest in profound work where you construct an inclusive cultural change where belonging is the heart of your business.
From there, people make choices and incorporate those new habits.

We explore misogyny as a big issue, yet it’s often misunderstood.
Therefore, the work of Kate Manne, Australian philosopher, associate professor of philosophy at Cornell University, and author is very important. In her book, she explains what it means exactly. She speaks about the nature, function, and persistence of misogyny.

Remember: the fundamental goal of misogyny is about controlling, policing, punishing, and exiling the “bad” women who dare to challenge male power.
And it’s appropriate with gratifying “the good ones,” and set aside other women to serve as warnings to those who are broken.

Find below her definition of misogyny and sexism:

Misogyny should be understood primarily as the “law enforcement” branch of a patriarchal order, which has the overall functions of policing and enforcing its governing norms and expectations.

Sexism should be understood primarily as the “justificatory” branch of a patriarchal order, which consists of ideology that the overall function of rationalising and justifying patriarchal social relations.

I strongly invite you to explore for yourself what’s the best you can do today to create a change within the community? I strongly invite you to support women who achieve rapid social progress in some areas in hitherto male-dominated roles, as it might provoke misogynist hostility.
I strongly invite you to empower non-white women. Misogynist and racism are indivisibly linked where the white supremacy seems liable to use various forms of erasure. If this is hard for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Imagine what it looks like for other non-white women in the UK and on this planet?
